He graduated high school the year farmland hit the highest price it had ever been. Adjusted for inflation, the district has only just got back there. The catch in that year was a prime lending rate near twenty percent, which made buying land close to unthinkable.
What followed was twenty years of land values falling and twenty years of them climbing back. This is a kitchen-table conversation with a farmer who worked through all of it on the same ground his family bought before the war.
